A message from the Haku Mele:
Older mele and moʻolelo continue to remind us of wind and rain names that many today have forgotten, never learned or are unfamiliar with. “Hilo Hanakahi,” “Waikapū,” and “Anahola” are among scores of mele – poetic texts – that are treasure troves of important aloha ʻāina information. So too, the ancient tale of Kūapākaʻa and the wind gourd of Laʻamaomao, and the contemporary literary gem by Akana and Gonzales remembering hundreds of rains through the islands, “Hānau ka Ua.”

Five ʻāina hoʻopulapula on five mokupuni are called out in this new mele, but the expressions of thanks and love extend to all Hawaiian Homesteads throughout Hawaiʻi Paeʻāina where our Lāhui continues to grow and flourish because of the selfless, tenacious, focused, diplomatic and ʻōpū aliʻi expert efforts of Ke Aliʻi Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole.
