Haʻaheo ka nohona o ke kamaʻāina
I ka poli pōʻai kualono o ka uka
Palikea i ka malu ulu o ke kīawe
Lau holu i ka pua ahe Waikōloa
Hui:
He aloha Nānākuli kuʻu home ē
ʻĀina nani ʻoe o nā ʻōiwi ē
He pono wai e ola ai nā pulapula ē
E ō Kalanianaʻole ē
Luana he nanea i ka holu a ke kai
ʻOlu ai ke one ōhele no ke kupa
Ua Nāulu mili ʻehukai o Keaulana
Pumehana Kealakaiihaʻehaʻe
Cherished with pride is the lifestyle of the native
There is an embrace of the mountain ridges of the uplands
Palikea is there in the forest shade of the kīawe
Swaying in the Waikōloa wind
Chorus:
Beloved is Nānākuli, my dear home
You are a beautiful land of the local natives
A source of water allowing residents to thrive
May your memory endure, O Prince Kalanianaʻole
Many relax in the billowing of the sea
By which the moving shore is enjoyed by the residents
As the sudden rain showers caress the sea spray of Keaulana
Kealakaiihaʻehaʻe remains warm and pleasant

A message from the Haku Mele:
Prince Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole is venerated in this hoʻoheno for the Nānākuli Homestead. Lyrical depictions illustrate the landscape of our home extending from the uplands of Palikea to the seashore of Keaulana and Kealakaiihaʻehaʻe. This concept engages the traditional understanding for aliʻi – nou ʻo luna, nou ʻo lalo, nou ʻo uka, nou ʻo kai – and dedicates the entirety of our home to Prince Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole, in honor of his benevolence in providing residential homestead lots in Nānākuli and water access for our families to thrive there.
